The Texas Toothpaste started with a family problem
Before there was a storefront in Forney, there was a Texas farming family trying to solve a problem at home.
When our son Levi was diagnosed with leukemia at age three, cancer treatment brought oral-care challenges into everyday family life. We wanted a simpler product and a formula we could understand. That need eventually became The Texas Toothpaste®.
Why cancer treatment can make oral care harder
The National Cancer Institute explains that chemotherapy and radiation can cause oral complications, including mouth sores, dry mouth and infection risk. Oral care can therefore become an important part of supportive care during treatment. National Cancer Institute: Oral Complications of Cancer Therapies.
Our family story is the reason we began formulating; it is not a claim that toothpaste treats cancer or treatment complications. Patients undergoing cancer treatment should follow the guidance of their oncology and dental teams.
From East Texas farm life to formulation
Jeremy “Lucky” Luckey brought a farmer's problem-solving mindset to the process. Experience working with ratios and formulations helped turn experimentation into a repeatable product. In 2020, we began selling at the Dallas Farmers Market while navigating farm expenses and medical costs.
Then the community carried it farther
What started from necessity grew through conversations with families looking for simpler ingredients, glass packaging and Texas-made products. Today Sheer Alternatives has planted roots in Forney with a Clean Living & Apothecary at 312 E Main Street, Forney, TX 75126.
